Frequently Asked Questions
Getting Started
-
Relic Trader is a platform for managing and trading collectible trading card game products, including Magic: The Gathering and Pokémon TCG items. You can organize your collection in binders, browse available items, and make offers to buy or sell cards directly with other collectors.
-
Create an account with your first name, last name, email address, and password. You can optionally choose a username, otherwise one will be auto-assigned. You must be at least 18 years old to sign up. After creating your account, you'll receive a confirmation email to verify it.
Collection and Listings
-
Binders are a way to organize your collection on Relic Trader. You can create multiple binders to categorize your cards (e.g., "Trade Binder," "Personal Collection," "For Sale"). Each binder can contain multiple items, and you can easily manage which cards are available for trading or selling.
-
We support the following card condition grades to help buyers and sellers accurately describe and assess items:
- Near Mint: Cards show minimal to no wear with nearly unmarked surfaces, sharp corners, and clean edges. May have one or two tiny imperfections only visible upon close inspection. Ideal for collectors seeking cards that look nearly unplayed.
- Excellent: Cards display minor wear from light handling but remain in great condition. May have slight edge whitening or a few small surface marks. Corners are still crisp with minimal rounding. Perfect for players who want high-quality cards for their decks.
- Good: Cards show noticeable play wear including visible edge whitening, light scratches, or minor scuffing. Corners may have slight rounding but the card maintains its structural integrity. Surface remains clean without major blemishes. Suitable for casual play.
- Fair: Cards exhibit moderate to significant wear from regular play. May include border wear, surface scratches, corner rounding, or light creasing that doesn't affect playability. Still tournament legal when sleeved. Great for budget-conscious players.
- Poor: Cards display heavy wear with significant imperfections such as creases, substantial edge wear, noticeable surface damage, or rounded corners. While still playable in sleeves, these cards show clear signs of extensive use. Best for players prioritizing functionality over condition.
- Damaged: Cards have major defects that may impact structural integrity or tournament legality. This includes severe creases, tears, water damage, extensive surface wear, or other issues that compromise the card's playability. May not be tournament legal even when sleeved.
-
They’re optional, but strongly recommended if you want serious offers. Real photos and a brief description, especially details about the item’s condition, help buyers confirm authenticity and feel confident reaching out.
Making Offers
-
Browse available items, find one you're interested in, and click "Make an Offer." Enter the amount you'd like to offer and submit. The seller will be notified and can accept, reject, or counter your offer. You'll receive a notification when the seller responds to your offer.
-
Offer cancellation is not available yet. Before submitting an offer, review the amount carefully. By selecting Confirm Offer, you commit to buying the item if the seller accepts. If the seller accepts, the offer will be added to your cart and you’ll have 24 hours to complete checkout.
Offer Responses and Terms
-
Accepting means you intend to complete the transaction under the terms shown in the offer. Once accepted, you should not ask to change price or major terms outside the platform. If you’re unsure, counter instead.
-
Countering rejects the current offer and creates a new offer with your updated terms. The other user can accept, counter again, or reject.
-
Rejecting declines that offer and ends it under those terms. Either user can still make a new offer unless restricted by settings or policy.
-
Messages are for coordination and clarification. The binding terms are what’s shown in the offer details (price, quantity, shipping method/fees, etc.). If something needs to change, make a new offer or counter with the updated terms.
-
Once a seller accepts your offer, you must complete payment within 24 hours to avoid cancellation. After payment is confirmed, the seller will ship the item to you. You'll receive tracking information once the item has been shipped.
Payments, Fees, and Safety
-
Payments are processed through our third-party payment processor. We accept major credit cards, debit cards, and other payment methods supported by our payment partner. All transactions are secure and encrypted.
-
For higher-priced transactions, we recommend:
- Tracked shipping
- Signature confirmation
- Insurance (when appropriate)
- Photos/video of item condition and packaging before shipment
Relic Trader may add extra confirmation steps for high-value offers to reduce fraud and mistakes.
-
The current standard seller fee is 11.75% per completed order, plus a $0.30 transaction fee per completed order.
If we introduce subscription tiers or promotional pricing with lower seller fees later, those rates will be disclosed before they apply. You can also review the latest fee language in our Terms and Conditions.
